INDULGE MUM THIS MOTHER'S DAY WITH A SPECIAL SCREENING OF DELICACY [M]

Indulge Mum this Mother's Day at a special screening of DELICACY [M] starring Audrey Tautou with a glass of Brown Brothers Sparkling Moscato Rosa for her and a guest.

"Beautifully written and perfectly pitched, this is a real gem"
Alex Zane, Sun Online

Natalie (Audrey Tautou) isn’t certain of anything anymore. One minute she is happily married, successful in her career and convinced the future is full of promise. But then a tragic accident occurs and her whole world is turned upside down.

Years later, still bruised by grief, she impulsively kisses her colleague Markus (comedian Francois Damiens). For Natalie, it is just a kiss. For the awkward, unassuming Markus, it is the moment in which he falls hopelessly, helplessly in love. But how will he ever convince such a beautiful, intelligent, confused young woman that he is the man who can bring her back to life?

Based on David Foenkinos’ best selling novel of the same name, Audrey Tautou is enchanting in this moving and humorous film that shows us sometimes we can’t choose who we fall in love with.

THE FIVE YEAR ENGAGEMENT [MA15+]

The director and writer/star of Forgetting Sarah Marshall reteam for the irreverent comedy The Five-Year Engagement. Beginning where most romantic comedies end, the new film from director Nicholas Stoller, producer Judd Apatow (Knocked Up, The 40-Year-Old Virgin) and Rodney Rothman (Get Him to the Greek) looks at what happens when an engaged couple, Jason Segel and Emily Blunt, keeps getting tripped up on the long walk down the aisle.

KING OF DEVIL'S ISLAND [M]

Based on remarkable true events in Norway in 1915, KING OF DEVIL’S ISLAND tells an extraordinary story of friendship, loyalty and rebellion, set on a remote ice-bound island reform school for abandoned children.

At Bastøy (located in the fjord of Oslo), life is tough; the manual labour is arduous and the young wards are underdressed and underfed for the freezing winter. Hard work, discipline and rough-handed punishment are what the guards believe will convert these youths into well-adjusted Christian citizens.

So when enigmatic 17-year-old Erling (magnetic newcomer Benjamin Helstad) arrives at Bastøy, his defiant attitude makes an immediate impression on the other boys, and rattles the authority of the stern governor (Stellan Skarsgård). Erling quickly determines the only means of survival is escape, but this unwittingly transforms him from the role of fugitive into the leader of a rebellion, provoking an astonishing series of events that remain unparalleled in Norwegian history…

With sweeping widescreen cinematography, immaculate period detail and wholly impressive performances, KING OF DEVIL’S ISLAND depicts a classic, timeless story of both physical and moral courage. After premiering to strong audience and critical acclaim at the 2011 Rotterdam Film Festival, the film achieved record-breaking success at the local box office, fuelling an intense public debate by a nation forced to reexamine part of its buried history.

PALACE OPERA AND BALLET: RIGOLETTO

Palace Opera & Ballet presents Rigoletto from THE ROYAL OPERA

'David McVicar, who has as much nerve as he has talent, takes this sordid tragedy and offers us the pleasure of rediscovering the great powers of opera...'
Diapason (Translation)

Based on Victor Hugo’s controversial play, Le Rois’amuse, Verdi’s 1851 tragedy caused one of his many rows with the censors before its Venetian premiere. Following a few minor compromises, the work triumphed locally, then internationally. The score’s most celebrated highlights – the Duke’s ‘Questa o quella’ and ‘La donna e mobile’, Gilda’s ‘Caro nome’, and the famous quartet are among the best known set- pieces in all opera. First seen in 2001, David McVicar’s production teems with life and colour and, with Tanya McCallin’s period costumes and Michael Vale’s starkly effective sets, it provides an ideal frame for Verdi’s exploration of love, emotional betrayal and the darkest revenge. Sung in Italian with English subtitles.

SWAN LAKE 3D [G]

When it premiered at Sadler’s Wells in 1995, Matthew Bourne’s triumphant re–interpretation of Swan Lake turned tradition upside down, taking the dance world by storm.

The iconic production, perhaps best–known for replacing the traditional female corps de ballet with a menacing male ensemble, was filmed in 3D at Sadler’s Wells, London last year. The stellar cast includes the magnificent Richard Winsor as the lead Swan/Stranger, Dominic North as The Prince and Nina Goldman as The Queen.

Fantastically the filming in 3D creates an illusion of space around the dancers, drawing us as the audience onto the stage and bringing a dramatic realism to the story.

DARK SHADOWS [CTC]

In the year 1752, Joshua and Naomi Collins, with young son Barnabas, set sail from Liverpool, England to start a new life in America. But even an ocean was not enough to escape the mysterious curse that has plagued their family.

Two decades pass and Barnabas (Johnny Depp) has the world at his feet - or at least the town of Collinsport, Maine. The master of Collinwood Manor, Barnabas is rich, powerful and an inveterate playboy… until he makes the grave mistake of breaking the heart of Angelique Bouchard (Eva Green). A witch, in every sense of the word, Angelique dooms him to a fate worse than death: turning him into a vampire, and then burying him alive.

Two centuries later, Barnabas is inadvertently freed from his tomb and emerges into the very changed world of 1972. He returns to Collinwood Manor to find that his once-grand estate has fallen into ruin. The dysfunctional remnants of the Collins family have fared little better, each harboring their own dark secrets. Matriarch Elizabeth Collins Stoddard (Michelle Pfeiffer) has called upon live-in psychiatrist, Dr. Julia Hoffman (Helena Bonham Carter), to help with her family troubles.

TRISHNA [MA15+]

From acclaimed director Michael Winterbottom (GENOVA, A MIGHTY HEART) comes a modern day re-telling of Thomas Hardy's classic novel "Tess of the d’Ubervilles". Starring SLUMDOG MILLIONAIRE’S Freida Pinto, TRISHNA is a beautifully shot tale of love and tragedy set across modern day rural Rajasthan and the thriving metropolis of Mumbai.

Trishna (Freida Pinto) lives a poor, sheltered life until one day she meets the wealthy young Jay (Riz Ahmed), who has come back to India to work in his father's hotel business. Being the sole provider for her family since her father’s accident, Trishna agrees to leave Rajasthan to work for Jay, and gradually they fall in love. Despite their feelings for each other, their relationship must remain a secret due to the conflicting pressures of a traditional society.

After a dramatic event separates the two, Jay tracks Trishna down and offers her a more liberated life full of possibility in Mumbai. As time passes, the relationship begins to transform and Jay’s true character emerges. Trishna soon finds herself torn between her family, a life of new freedom and the reality of her troubled relationship.
