“Life is what happens to you while you are busy making other plans” is the basis for the new comedy from award-winning Turkish-German filmmaker Fatih Akin (Edge of Heaven, Head On, Short Sharp Shock).
Young Hamburg restauranteur Zinos (Adam Bousdoukos) is down on his luck. His girlfriend Nadine (Pheline Roggan) has moved to Shanghai, his Soul Kitchen customers are boycotting the new gourmet chef, and he's having back trouble! Things start looking up when the hip crowd embraces his revamped culinary concept, but that doesn't mend Zinos's broken heart. He decides to fly to China for Nadine, leaving the restaurant in the hands of his unreliable ex-con brother Illias (Moritz Bleibtreu). Both decisions turn out to be disastrous...
But brothers Zinos and Illias might still have one last chance to save Soul Kitchen if they can stop arguing and work together as a team.

"4.5 stars! A lot of fun. Cheerful, wild, colourful, sometimes a little silly, but it's thoroughly enjoyable."
David Stratton, AT THE MOVIES
"4 stars. Thoroughly enjoyable. An embrace of the city and the changing nature of the city and it says a lot about contemporary cities where old areas are suddenly eagerly being sought by developers. A really nice film"
