There are over 300 bank robberies in Boston every year. And most of the professionals live in a one-square-mile neighbourhood called Charlestown.
One of them is Doug MacRay (Academy Award® winner Ben Affleck, who is also the film’s director) but he is not cut from the same cloth as his fellow thieves. Despite his chance at success, he becomes the leader of a crew of ruthless bank robbers who forge a strong family-like alliance.
However, everything changed when the gang realise the hostage they used in their last robbery, bank manager Claire Keesey (Rebecca Hall,‘Vicky Christina Barcelona’) lives in Charlestown and begin to get nervous about what she has seen. As the gang embark on making sure Claire doesn’t have anything incriminating on the gang, Doug takes charge, seeking out Claire who has no idea the charming man is the person responsible for terrorizing her days earlier. Doug and Claire’s relationship deepens, and Doug wants out of the town, but loyalties to the gang are tested and a chance at starting over comes at a price: betray his friends or lose the woman he loves.
