Updated 2020 Film Release Dates

20 May

In the wake of the coronavirus pandemic, the last few months have seen the 2020 film release calender in a constant state of flux like never before. We are now approaching what would be the summer movie season (June-August) in the US, which is traditionally reserved for the major studios to unleash big-budget, highly anticipated tentpoles to mass audiences.

Multiple studios have opted to reschedule the release of their 2020 slated films until next year, including Sony’s Ghostbusters: Afterlife (now releasing March 25, 2021) and Venom: Let There be Carnage (now releasing June 24, 2021), and Universal’s Fast and Furious 9 (now releasing April 1, 2021) and Minions: The Rise of Gru (now releasing June 17, 2021). However, some of the most anticipated films have remained in 2020, like Marvel’s Black Widow (releasing October 29), Warner Brother’s Tenet (releasing July 16) and Wonder Woman 1984 (releasing August 13), Disney’s Mulan (releasing July 23), Universal’s No Time to Die (releasing November 12), and Paramount’s Top Gun: Maverick (releasing December 26).

With the re-opening of cinemas on the horizon across most of the globe, we now have a solid snapshot of what the rest of the year will look like in terms of confirmed film releases. When Australian cinemas re-open in the coming months, they will do so under very different conditions with social distancing and precautionary health measures in place. The cinemas may look a little different but with such great quality films lined up, once the lights go down, the cinema experience will be alive and well, and just as captivating as you remember.

Although the blockbuster season is taking a different shape this year, there is plenty to look forward to in the second half of 2020. As of now, here are the films that will be releasing in the remaining months of the year. Click on the linked titles to find out more about those films.
