TOP GUN: MAVERICK ASCENDS TO 5TH HIGHEST-GROSSING FILM OF ALL TIME IN AUSTRALIA

The long-awaited Top Gun Sequel has certainly taken Australia’s breath away. After its consistent domination of the Australian Box office since its release just 32 days ago, the film has soared its way into becoming the 5th highest-grossing film of all time in Australia bringing in a mammoth AU$64.16 million. Top Gun: Maverick has now surpassed a slew of other massive blockbuster films like Avengers: Infinity War (AU$62million), The Lion King (AU$64.1million), Star Wars: The Last Jedi (AU$58million) and Titanic (AU$57.7million). The film also sees itself become one of only two films released post-pandemic to enjoy the rare success of entering the top five highest-grossing films of all time in Australia along with Marvel’s Summer hit Spider-Man: No Way Home (AU$81.1million). Outside of Australia, Top Gun: Maverick has also been reaching new heights at the global box office, having now exceeded the US$1 billion mark and outstandingly ranking as the year’s highest-grossing film worldwide having landed US$1.006 billion grossed currently, combining US$484.7million internationally and US$521.7million at the domestic box office. The film also now stands as the highest-grossing film of Tom Cruise’s incredibly successful career, weaving past his previous major blockbusters Mission: Impossible: Fallout (US$791million) globally, and Mission Impossible II (AU$22.5million) in Australia. Cruise is not the only one enjoying the mounting successes of the film. Critics and fans alike have been crazed over the nostalgic action thrill-ride, with an impressive Certified Fresh score of 97% on Rotten Tomatoes and with a 99% audience score from 25,000+ verified ratings.
