A special offer to see Patrice Leconte's exquisite new crime drama.Watch Trailer
The Palace Movie Club is delighted to extend Sydney Members and their guests a special offer to attend an Opening Week screening of MAIGRET, the exquisite new crime drama from Patrice Leconte (Monsieur Hire, The Girl on the Bridge).
Gérard Depardieu gives a career-best performance as Georges Simenon’s legendary detective Jules Maigret, one of the most beloved characters from 20th century crime fiction, tasked in ’50s Paris with investigating the identity of a young woman whose body is discovered in a town square.
Simenon (and Leconte’s) formidable protagonist – a French counterpart to Agatha Christie’s Poirot and P.D. James’ Dalgliesh – has been brought to the screen before, but Depardieu leaves an indelible stamp on the character, bringing tenderness and dignity to a man prepared to listen before he speaks, and to stand up for those without a voice.
“Incredibly moving and beautiful. Depardieu finds here by far his best role.” LE FIGARO
“Impressive. Has the air of a new classic.” TÉLÉRAMA
