From writer-director Michel Franco (New Order) comes a simmering, suspenseful sharp jolt: Alice and Neil Bennett (Charlotte Gainsbourg, Tim Roth) are the core of a wealthy British family on vacation in Acapulco with younger members Colin and Alexa (Samuel Bottomley and Albertine Kotting McMillan) when they receive a phone call. There has been a death in the family and everyone must return home. However, Neil ‘loses’ his passport, delaying his return indefinitely.
Tim Roth gives an exquisite performance as a “wonderfully relaxed sociopath”, enjoying a meandering existence in Acapulco in spite of rising familial tensions and pleas to return home. Unperturbed by his sister’s fury, and barely batting an eye after witnessing a gangland execution, this darkly funny and evasive drama will have you asking the “million-dollar question“, what on earth is wrong with Neil?
