BIFF17 Weirdos22nd August, 2017
It’s 1976, and Kit (Dylan Authors) is a teenager living in Nova Scotia. He’s happy enough, but yearns for more – so he decides to run away to live with his mother, an artistic free spirit shacked up in a group house in true ’70s style. Taking along his best friend, Alice (Julia Sarah Stone), the 15-year-old duo set out on what turns out to be an epic and unexpected road trip where relationships are tested, sexuality is discovered and dreams are looked square in the eye.
With loving attention paid to period detail and beautifully warm performances, Weirdos is constantly surprising in all its narrative twists and genuine honesty. McDonald’s hand is firm throughout but he allows the entire film and players within it to breathe in a completely refreshing way.

“A lovely, low-key memory piece, vibrant with the awkward grace of adolescence.” – The Hollywood Reporter
