Palace Cinemas confirms that comedic legend, John Cleese, will appear at Palace Cinemas Norton Street in Leichhardt for a one-night-only, intimate ‘in conversation’ event on the evening of Friday, August 12.
Following screenings of two episodes of Fawlty Towers – audience favourites ‘Basil the Rat’ and ‘The Germans’, Cleese will join a host on stage to discuss life, comedy, silliness, and absurdity, as well as the world premiere tour of the new stage show, Fawlty Towers Live.
Cleese's influence has stretched across generations; his sharp, irreverent eye and unique approach to physical comedy are now written into the DNA of comedy itself.
He co-founded the legendary Monty Python troupe, co-wrote and starred in Fawlty Towers, and wrote and co-starred in A Fish Called Wanda and Fierce Creatures… never mind completing the best-selling books Families and How to Survive Them and Life and How to Survive It with therapist Robin Skynner as well.
It all began when Cleese was just days away from graduating Cambridge and setting off on a law career, when he was visited by two BBC executives who offered him a job writing comedy for radio. That encounter - and a near-simultaneous offer to take his university humour revue to London's famed West End - propelled him down a different path, cutting his teeth writing for the likes of David Frost and Peter Sellers, and eventually joining his fellow Pythons to pioneer a new kind of comedy that prized invention, silliness, and absurdity.
From reluctant performer to an era-defining actor, join us for an intimate evening at Palace Cinema Norton Street, 99 Norton Street Leichhardt.
Tickets are now on sale and seats are limited. Palace Movie Club members receive special ticket prices.
