Guy Pearce plays a captain at a military outpost in 19th century American frontier, whose regiment is tasked with investigating a missing persons report. Their mission, however, takes a dark turn upon encountering a madman (played by Robert Carlyle) with a taste for human flesh. A horror, a western, a black comedy, and one of the best films ever made about cannibalism, this uncategorisable film from director Antonia Bird (1994’s PRIEST) – featuring a music score by both Michael Nyman and Blur/Gorillaz frontman Damon Albarn – was a troubled production and a box office failure on release, but has since achieved well-deserved cult status.
