Good Luck to You, Leo Grande

M 97 MIN
Watch Trailer

Synopsis

With a fearlessly raw performance from two-time Academy Award winner Emma Thompson, GOOD LUCK TO YOU, LEO GRANDE provides a refreshing (and hilarious) perspective on sexuality that’s charming, authentic and thought-provoking.

Nancy Stokes (Emma Thompson), a retired school teacher and widow, is yearning for some adventure, some human connection, and some sex. Good sex.

Whilst her husband Robert provided a home, a family, something resembling a life, good sex was never on offer. But he’s gone now, and Nancy has a plan: she will find adventure with a sex worker named Leo Grande, charismatically played by newcomer Daryl McCormack (Peaky Blinders). With growing sexual confidence, Nancy starts to relax. But over the course of their rendezvous, the power dynamics shift, a candour grows, and a surprising human connection is found.

Director Sophie Hyde (Animals) crafts an empowering portrayal of a middle-aged sexuality that’s all too rare, layered with authentic human connection. GOOD LUCK TO YOU, LEO GRANDE is disarmingly funny but radiates an honesty that is both insightful and poignant.

Reviews

"Thompson has always been a terrific actor, but she reaches a new plane here, a place where her vulnerability as a person and her confidence as a performer mesh into something glorious."

- TIME Magazine

"Thompson is truly better than ever and brings to life a complex and evolving person with humor, grace and a sharp edge. McCormack, meanwhile, is a star in the making."

- Associated Press

"It’s a movie about private encounters that just may be a public good: sex ed, or life ed, for grownups."

- Vanity Fair

"Thompson is extraordinary as she navigates the various insecurities that come with inexperience, age, and general repression, and McCormack is a charming and understanding match for her. "

- The Atlantic
