Damien Dempsey’s inspiring mix of impassioned rock, Irish folk and social commentary strikes a resonant chord. Exploring themes of addiction and trauma, positivity and hope, this film is about the power of music to heal. Dempsey’s Christmas concerts held in Dublin’s Vicar St have become a cathartic ritual for his fans, a demographic bonded together by the challenges and rewards of life. Love Yourself Today examines and humanises the relationship between the artist and his audience by tracing Dempsey’s path alongside the lives of three individuals who’ve been affected by his music. Note this presentation will conclude with a post-screening Q&A recording featuring IFF’s Enda Murray interviewing the filmmakers.
