NEW PRODUCTION Set in 1850, The Girl of the Golden West was opera’s first “spaghetti western”. Bursting with life, Puccini’s sumptuous music transports us right to the Polka saloon where passions, as well as humanity and brotherhood, triumph. Minnie (Barbara Haveman) is the bar’s manageress, Dick Johnson (Marcelo Álvarez) is the stranger she falls for. Robert Carsen’s new production promises to be one of this season’s real jewels.
