Opera in four acts (1847)
The gala opening of the new opera season at La Scala is the biggest event in
the Italian musical calendar. This year, Musical Director Riccardo Chailly completes the series of interpretations of Giuseppe Verdi’s “youthful trilogy” (after ‘Giovanna d’Arco’ and ‘Attila’) with Macbeth, the composer’s magnificent opera on Shakespeare’s tragedy. Staged by visionary director Davide Livermore, with Giò Forma’s stage designers and costumes by Gianluca Falaschi, the grand cast is led by Anna Netrebko and Luca Salsi as the murderous Macbeths, alongside Francesco Meli as Macduff and Ildar Abdrazakov as Banco.
Film location: Teatro alla Scala, Milan
