New Production! Bryan Hymel, Lisette Oropesa, Ermonela Jaho and Nicolas Testé lead a great
cast for this long-awaited revival of Giacomo Meyerbeer’s spectacular Grand Opera, on stage in Paris for the first time in over 80 years! An immediate success at the Paris Opera in 1836 where it was first staged, Les Huguenots became a repertory mainstay and the first work to be performed there 1,000 times! It's a monumental fresco featuring various impossible loves in the context of the 1572 Saint Bartholomew's Day massacre of French Huguenots (Protestants)
by the Roman Catholic forces of Charles IX. For its revival, Andreas Kriegenburg places these romantic and religious conflicts in an immaculate setting in which the costumes appear yet more flamboyant and the victims’ blood more violently red. The exciting Michele Mariotti conducts.
