NEW PRODUCTION Verdi wrote in 1855 that Rigoletto, based on a play by Victor Hugo, was his ‘best opera’.
Between the frivolous, licentious Duke (brilliant American tenor Michael Fabiano) and Gilda (Russian soprano Olga Peretyatko), a victim of the ignorance which holds her captive, stands the double-faceted character of the hunchback Rigoletto (Quinn Kelsey), monstrous and heartrending, grotesque and sublime. Claus Guth directs.
