Ballet triple bill.
The long partnership between the great Maurice Béjart and the Paris Opera Ballet provided more than twenty pieces to the company’s repertoire. In tribute to Béjart, who passed away fifteen years ago, the company perform three works that, fifty years on, still shine with the same choreographic and musical intensity! For his ode to youth ‘The Firebird’ (1970), the choreographer took up Stravinsky’s powerful score bringing out its quintessence. ‘The Song of the Wandering Companion’ (1971), an intimate work written for two male dancers to a song cycle by Mahler, reveals the rigour and grace of Béjart's language. Set to Ravel’s eponymous score, the mythical ‘Boléro’ (1961) sees a principal performer - male or female – transported by the bewitching rhythms into an erotic and hypnotic dance, a vibrant call to life.
