SCA22 The Serpent's Egg

M 119 MIN
Watch Trailer

Synopsis

Hailing from Norway, Liv Ullmann is known as the muse and frequent collaborator of Swedish filmmaker Ingmar Bergman, bringing to life his core themes of anguish, loss and failure, over their nine films together.

In this dark thriller Ullmann plays Manuela, a cabaret singer and the estranged sister-in-law of unemployed Jewish-American circus performer Abel Rosenberg (David Carradine). In 1920s Berlin, the two are desperate to make ends meet and feel increasingly unwelcome in the menacing and destitute city.

Bergmans’ sole big-budget Hollywood production, The Serpent’s Egg conjures a Kafkaesque nightmare about the decaying society that gave rise to the horrors of Nazism.
