Palace Regent Ballarat's 50th Anniversary Reopening: Rocky

The bell rings again! Celebrate the 50th Anniversary of Palace Regent Ballarat’s historic reopening in 1976 with a screening of Sylvester Stallone’s legendary Rocky, also marking its 50th Anniversary on Sunday 15 November.

Guests are also invited to have the opportunity to contribute an item such as a letter, photograph or cherished memory to a special time capsule, marking this milestone in the cinema’s history!

First opening in 1928, the Regent Theatre has been a beloved Ballarat landmark for nearly a century. Following a decade-long closure and extensive restoration, it reopened on 11 November 1976. Now proudly operating as Palace Regent Ballarat, we’re honouring this milestone with one of cinema’s greatest underdog stories.

Winner of three Academy Awards, including Best Picture, Rocky stars Sylvester Stallone as a small-time Philadelphia boxer handed the chance of a lifetime against heavyweight champion Apollo Creed (Carl Weathers). With the odds stacked against him, Rocky discovers that sometimes going the distance is the greatest victory of all.

Five decades and nine films later, revisit the iconic classic ahead of the anticipated release of I Play Rocky, in a cinema with its own remarkable history!
