Q & A Event
Be among the first to see Boss Cat ahead of its national cinema release on 3 December 2026 (the International Day of People with Disability!). This special preview screening on November 24th at Palace Cinema Moore Park is co-hosted by AFTRS. It will be followed by a live Q&A featuring Eleanor Winkler (Producer of Boss Cat and co-founder of Bus Stop Films) and Michael Geelan (Bus Stop Films) - more speakers to be announced soon.
When her mother suddenly passes away, 23 year-old Sonja (Olivia Hargroder), a young woman with Trisomy 21 (Down syndrome), fights to keep the family home and prove she can live independently. Her estranged grandmother Doris (Penny Downie) thinks stability means selling the house and moving Sonja into group care, while younger sister Emma (Julia Savage) is caught between loyalty and her own aspirations. Inspired by her new friend Hakim (Elijah Williams), Sonja stands up to Doris by expressing herself through krumping, an energetic dance style that releases frustration.
A stirring debut feature about individuality and independence, Boss Cat is anchored by a fearless lead performance and is a testament to the power of resilience, creative expression, and love.
