BFF24 Henry V

Marking 35 years since release, this 1989 rendition of HENRY V, directed by and starring Kenneth Branagh, offers a striking adaptation of William Shakespeare’s play of the same name. The film portrays the young King Henry V of England as he leads his troops into France, culminating in the famous Battle of Agincourt during the Hundred Years' War. Branagh's Henry is a complex figure—both a charismatic leader and a man burdened by the responsibilities of kingship. This version of HENRY V is noted for its gritty realism and vivid portrayal of medieval warfare, distinguishing it from earlier adaptations, such as Laurence Olivier's 1944 version. Branagh's direction and performance were widely acclaimed, earning him Academy Award nominations for Best Actor and Best Director. The film also received an Oscar for Best Costume Design. The powerful and evocative score by Patrick Doyle, along with the strong supporting cast—including Derek Jacobi, Emma Thompson, and Ian Holm, enhances the film's impact, emotional depth, and faithful yet dynamic interpretation of Shakespeare's text.
