Written and directed by Maura Delpero, drawing from her own family’s past and collective memory, this rich, intimate drama follows a series of consequential events in a village caught between tradition and modernity. 1944. In Vermiglio, a small mountain village high up in the Italian Alps, war looms as a distant but constant threat. When reserved soldier Pietro (Giuseppe De Domenico) arrives in the village, hiding out after deserting the army, he disrupts the dynamics of the family of local teacher schoolteacher Cesare Graziadei (Tommaso Ragno, also in The Illusion and Sicilian Letters). Pietro and Lucia (Martina Scrinzi), Cesare’s eldest daughter, are instantly drawn to each other leading to an unexpected fate.
