Synopsis
Ballet in two acts (2015) New Production! Acclaimed Romanian choreographer Edward Clug's striking and poetic contemporary ballet, based on the classic Ibsen play of the same name, comes to La Scala for the first time. Follow the fantastical and tumultuous journey of the impulsive Peer (Australian rising star Navrin Turnbull), who abandons his humble origins in search of adventure and glory, his travels taking him through imaginative landscapes - from the mountains of Norway, through the kingdom of the trolls, to the deserts of North Africa – only to return to Solveig (Alice Mariani), whose enduring love offers him a chance at redemption and meaning. Featuring bold stage and costume design by Marko Japelij and Leo Kulaš, and set to Grieg’s evocative score, Clug’s irresistible mix of naturalism, realism and the absurd delivers true magic.
