Synopsis
Herzog’s evocative and enigmatic homage to F.W. Murnau's classic NOSFERATU (1922) features an impressive ensemble cast Klaus Kinski, Isabelle Adjani and Bruno Ganz. Jonathan Harker, a real estate agent, travels to Transylvania to assist Count Dracula (Klaus Kinski) in buying property in Wismar. However, he soon discovers Dracula's vampiric nature and the impending danger to his wife Lucy (Isabelle Adjani). As the mysterious and eerie events unfold, Kinski delivers a captivating and chilling performance, bringing a sense of malevolence and tragic loneliness to the iconic character. Characterised by its atmospheric cinematography, Herzog emphasises the eerie landscapes and Gothic architecture with stunning visuals and coupled with a haunting musical score by Popol Vuh. The director's meticulous attention to detail creates a visually striking and emotionally resonant experience. A masterful gothic horror reinterpretation of a classic tale, NOSFERATU THE VAMPYRE blends homage with Herzog's unique artistic vision.
