Synopsis
Nominated for two Academy Awards and co-directed by the legendary Stanley Donen and Gene Kelly, SINGIN' IN THE RAIN is a spoof of the turmoil that afflicted the movie industry in the late 1920s when movies went from silent to sound. A silent film star (Gene Kelly) falls for a chorus girl (Debbie Reynolds) just as he and his delusionally jealous screen partner (Jean Hagen) are trying to make the difficult transition to talking pictures in 1920s Hollywood. Through some of the most memorable and exuberant musical and comedy sequences ever filmed, this trailblazing musical cleverly capitalised on the dilemmas of the transition to sound. Clever, incisive, and funny, it emerged as a classic and is considered by many to be one of the greatest Hollywood musicals ever made.
