Synopsis

Based on the novella by Stephen King, THE LIFE OF CHUCK is a poignant, genre-defying journey through one man’s extraordinary life… told in reverse. Brought to life with affecting sincerity by Tom Hiddleston in the titular lead role and directed by Stephen King adaptation specialist, Mike Flanagan (Doctor Sleep, Gerald's Game), this meditative and imaginative tale balances the intimate and the cosmic. From his final days in a crumbling world back to the innocence of childhood, the film weaves together three distinct chapters that gradually reveal the quiet power and mystery of Charles Krantz (Hiddleston). As reality itself seems to unravel, we uncover the beauty and tragedy of a life filled with ordinary wonders, unexpected connections, and the enduring echoes of love, loss and legacy. A haunting and heartfelt ode to memory, identity and time, THE LIFE OF CHUCK features a formidable ensemble cast alongside the excellent Hiddleston including Mark Hamill, Lauren LaVera, Karen Gillan, Matthew Lillard, Harvey Guillén, David Dastmalchian, Mia Sara, Chiwetel Ejiofor, Q'orianka Kilcher, and Jacob Tremblay. With its surreal touches, masterful storytelling and rich emotional core, it’s a singular cinematic experience that invites the viewer to reflect on what makes a life meaningful.

Reviews

"A lot of movies barely have a point of view at all. This one is a prism in comparison. It gives viewers what David Lynch called “room to dream.”"

- RogerEbert.com

"This film feels like the coziest of blankets enveloping you in the theater. However, you should expect a few jolts of static electricity as you snuggle into that blanket. After all, this touching, beautiful film is based on a novella by Stephen King."

- Boston Globe

"Now that he’s delivered an elegy in the vein of “Stand By Me” or “The Shawshank Redemption,” Flanagan has made one thing clear: He’s attuned to King at every frequency."

- Washington Post

"The Life of Chuck is a perfect marriage of Mike Flanagan and Stephen King's talents."

- Mashable
