Synopsis
Anywhere. Anyone. Almost 45 years on from its horrifying release, critically acclaimed director John Carpenter’s (Halloween) sci-fi horror, THE THING, returns to cinemas full of truly frightening effects, a minimalist score that adds a slow pulse of dread and the unsettling feeling of not knowing who might be the alien. In remote Antarctica, a group of American research scientists are disturbed at their base camp by a helicopter shooting at a sled dog. When they take in the dog, it brutally attacks both human beings and canines in the camp, and they discover that the beast can assume the shape of its victims. A resourceful helicopter pilot and the camp doctor lead the camp crew in a desperate, gory battle against the vicious creature before it picks them all off, one by one. Featuring standout performances from Golden Globe nominee Kurt Russell, three-time Emmy winner Keith David Childs and Wilford Brimley, THE THING remains one of the purest expressions of cinematic paranoia, with Carpenter turning the isolated station into a social pressure chamber where every look, silence and hesitation becomes evidence and Dean Cundey's cold cinematography making corridors, rooms and faces feel trapped inside uncertainty.
