Synopsis
Opera in three acts (1849)
New Production! From Naples’ historic Teatro di San Carlo, where ‘Luisa Miller’ was originally premiered and where it now opens the 2026 operatic season, comes a new production of Verdi’s soaring dramatic gem from acclaimed director Davide Livermore, with Daniel Oren conducting a cast of outstanding Verdian voices. This gripping opera tells the story of Luisa (Italian soprano Mariangela Sicilia), a young woman whose faith and love are tested by the ambitions and intrigues that surround her. Her devotion to her father and her beloved Rodolfo (internationally sought-after tenor Piotr Beczała, making his Naples debut) is set against a backdrop of class prejudice, manipulation and moral compromise. Salvatore Cammarano's libretto is inspired by Friedrich Schiller’s vision of theatre as a “moral institution” that exposes injustice and vice.
