Haunting, heart-wrenching, and one of the best films of the year. Andrew Haigh's achingly melancholic meditation on love, loss, and loneliness is an understated heartbreaker. Paired with intelligent and quietly affecting performances from the leading quartet of Andrew Scott, Paul Mescal, Claire Foy, and Jamie Bell, the critically acclaimed drama is an undeniable Haigh masterpiece.
One night in his near-empty tower block in contemporary London, Adam (Scott) has a chance encounter with a mysterious neighbour Harry (Mescal), which punctures the rhythm of his everyday life. As a relationship develops between them, Adam is preoccupied with memories of the past and finds himself drawn back to the suburban town where he grew up, and the childhood home where his parents (Foy and Bell), appear to be living, just as they were on the day they died, 30 years before.
Propelled by a nostalgic 80s queer pop soundtrack, sublime visuals, and engrossing, tender chemistry between Scott and Mescal, this is an experience that will linger in your mind days after viewing.
