A FAREWELL TO THE CHAUVEL
The legacy continues at Palace Moore Park
After more than two decades as proud custodians of The Chauvel Cinema, Palace Cinemas will farewell this much-loved Paddington venue on January 27, 2026, following the conclusion of our lease and the City of Sydney’s upcoming long-term overhaul of Paddington Town Hall.
For generations of film lovers, the Chauvel has been a home for international cinema, bold independent filmmaking and festival discovery, a place shaped by its audiences and their love of cinema. While this is a farewell to the building, it is not a farewell to what the Chauvel has always stood for.
The Chauvel’s spirit will continue at Palace Moore Park, alongside Palace Central and Palace Norton Street. As our home for arthouse and festival programming in Sydney, Palace Moore Park allows us to honour the Chauvel’s legacy while offering a more accessible, modern cinematic experience. We invite you to join us in the Chauvel’s final weeks, before welcoming you to the next chapter at Palace Moore Park.
The cinema doors and phone lines are open 15 minutes prior to the first session of the day.
