Synopsis

It is what it is. Acclaimed Australian writer-director Dario Russo of Danger 5 cult fame draws upon Japanese and Korean folktales, as well as his own upbringing in the Adelaide Hills, in THE FOX, a hilarious dark-comedy of a trickster fox let loose in the henhouse of Australian culture. Nick (Jai Courtney) is your average good bloke - heart of gold, a bit thick, a dud root, looks forward to schnitty night at the pub. But his personal life is a mess – his fiancée, Kori (Emily Browning), is caught sleeping with her boss, Derek (Damon Herriman), who is the husband of her best friend Diana (Claudia Doumit). This entangled foursome of adultery and toxic relationships gets upended when Nick catches a mysterious Fox who promises him the perfect wife in exchange for freedom. Nick accepts the Fox’s proposal but soon gets more than he bargained for. Featuring an all-star cast, including Australian screen legend Sam Neill and Academy Award winner Olivia Coleman as Magpie and the titular Fox, THE FOX explores the struggle between domestication, commitment and stability against the wild and primal desire for freedom, novelty and lust.
