Synopsis

From Australian writer-directors Hannah Barlow (who also stars in the film) and Kane Senes, SISSY is a wonderfully unhinged and gruesome take on social media culture, wellness influencers, and backstabbing friends (both figurative and literal). The thrilling slasher premiered to SXSW success and acclaim with a star-making performance from The Bold Type’s Aisha Dee as the morally ambiguous lead, Cecilia or ‘Sissy’ as she was mockingly labeled in her youth. Cecilia (Dee) and Emma (Barlow) were once tween-age BFFs who were going to grow old together and never let anything come between them, until new girl Alex (Emily De Margheriti) arrived on the scene and began taunting Cecilia. Twelve years later, Cecilia is a successful social media influencer living the dream of an independent, modern millennial woman… until she runs into Emma for the first time in over a decade. After reuniting their childhood bond, Emma invites Cecilia away on her bachelorette weekend at a remote cabin in the mountains. With past tensions brought to the surface, what starts as some snarky comments over dinner spirals into ludicrous violent and fatal outbursts as the holiday goes on. Talk about the hens getaway from hell… SISSY's sickly sweet satirical approach stabs its grim subject matter with grisly humour that provides outrageous yet frighteningly enjoyable entertainment. Just try not to get too #triggered.
