This superbly perceptive new drama from emerging young talent Mia Hansen-Løve is a thought-provoking and deeply moving portrait of a family undergoing a dramatic rupture.

Film producer Grégoire Canvel (Louis Do de Lencquesaing) has it all – a wife and three delightful daughters he adores and a stimulating job that he's devoted to. On the surface he seems invincible, maintaining humour and charm as he tirelessly juggles the never-ending demands of his company with his domestic responsibilities. But when Grégoire's reserves, financial and emotional, reach a dramatic cracking point, his wife Sylvia (Chiara Caselli) and children are forced to cope with the repercussions...

Marked by moments of remarkable beauty and grace amid emotional turmoil, this loving but bittersweet film has tremendous emotional power.

"5 stars! "Deeply intelligent. An outstanding, undemonstrative family drama."
Peter Bradshaw, THE GUARDIAN (UK)

"5 stars! Remarkable"
Anthony Quinn, THE INDEPENDENT (UK)

"5 stars! Superlative. Hansen-Løve is so good at bustling exteriors early on, that the beat and glow of her characters’ emotions, always there, make themselves manifest almost without our noticing... The drama in this film is in the faces that register truth unmediated, whether in a quarrel or an idyll, in a burst of happiness or a silent storm of grief. I never saw characters weep so convincingly on screen, so uncoercedly and uncoercingly. We never feel marched towards either a mood or a message, but we always and unforgettably “feel”.
Nigel Andrews, THE FINANCIAL TIMES (UK)

"Hansen-Love has created is an extraordinarily empathetic humanistic drama, a film of love, joy, sadness and hope that understands how complex our emotions are and does beautiful justice to them."
Kenneth Turan, LOS ANGELES TIMES
