rom the brilliant and chaotic mind of visionary filmmaker Michel Gondry (Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind) comes a new tour de force of off-beat humour and pathos.
A semi-autobiographical comedy about a filmmaker struggling to complete his new film, The Book of Solutions debuted at the 2023 Cannes Film Festival, eight years after Gondry's previous film. With César Award-winning actor Pierre Niney (Masquerade AF FFF23) channelling Gondry’s imaginative, innovative and anxious energy into the role of Marc, the director of a tumultuous film production, The Book of Solutions provides a tantalising insight into why Gondry took so long to make his next film.
A rustic village in Cévennes is a world away from the power-broking environment of the French film industry, and that is where Marc has gone to surreptitiously re-edit his new film and rekindle the creative spark that has been dormant for too long. Joined by a small crew of his exhausted, long-suffering and most loyal collaborators, Marc’s battle to overcome self-sabotage, procrastination and distractions is depicted with the flair, vitality and whimsy that only a Gondry film can bring.
