From acclaimed writer/director Greta Gerwig (Little Women, Ladybird) comes the highly anticipated Barbie live-action film adaptation starring Margot Robbie as Barbie and Ryan Gosling as Ken in casting perfection. Co-written by Gerwig, beloved as an auteur of the feminine gaze, and her partner Noah Baumbach, the script was hailed by Gosling as “the best [he’d] ever read”.
Eccentric and individualistic, Barbie is exiled from Barbieland because of her imperfections. When her home world is in peril, Barbie returns with the knowledge that what makes her different also makes her stronger.
The film features a star-studded ensemble cast who will play alternate Barbies, Kens, and many more Barbie universe faves, including Will Ferrell, Kate McKinnon, America Ferrera, Simu Liu, Emma Mackey, Michael Cera, Ritu Arya, Issa Rae, and Ncuti Gatwa. Barbie is a stylistic over-the-top comedy that deconstructs the feminist iconography of the iconic doll and reconstructs her for a new generation.
