Jalali’s fourth film is brought to life by the empathetic efforts of a talented cast including a memorable cameo from The Bear’s Jeremy Allen White and an incredibly natural turn from newcomer Anaita Wali Zadaa.
The drama follows beautiful and troubled 20-something Donya, an Afghan translator who lives by herself in Fremont, California in a bulding with other Afghan immigrants. Further distinguished by striking black-and-white cinematography, the film takes a thoughtful — and wryly funny — look at the immigrant experience.
