Palace Cinemas is thrilled to be the exclusive host of the 2020 Persian Film Festival, from December 3 – December 6. Through film screenings, forums, masterclasses and special events, the Festival highlights the richness of Iranian cinema and Persian-speaking filmmakers from around the globe.
To close the 9th edition of the Festival, join us for our closing night film The Chess Of The Wind. Mohammad Reza Aslani’s debut feature screened publicly just once in 1976, before being long lost after the 1979 Iranian Revolution. Recently rediscovered as one of the treasures of Persian cinema, the restored masterpiece offers a refined and poetic rendering of aristocratic decadence under the Qajar dynasty, chronicled in a fallout amongst heirs when a family’s matriarch passes away. With a remarkable score by film composer Sheyda Gharachedaghi and talented eye of Houshang Baharlou, it ranks among the great recent (re)discoveries of world cinema.
