The Duke Morning Tea Screening

Enjoy tea or coffee and a selection of scrumptious cakes and scones!

Watch Trailer

Palace Cinemas invites you to a Morning Tea Screening of the British Film Festival favourite, The Duke, starring Jim Broadbent and Helen Mirren.

Join us from 10am for your choice of hot beverage and a selection of scrumptious cakes and scones, before the screening commences at 11am.

The Duke is the true story of Kempton Bunton (Jim Broadbent), a 60-year old taxi driver, who stole Goya’s portrait of the Duke of Wellington from the National Gallery in London. It was the first (and remains the only) theft in the Gallery’s history. Kempton sent ransom notes saying that he would return the painting on the condition that the government invested more in care for the elderly – he had long campaigned for pensioners to receive free television. What happened next became the stuff of legend. Only 50 years later did the full story emerge – Kempton had spun a web of lies. The only truth was that he was a good man, determined to change the world and save his marriage – how and why he used the Duke to achieve that is a wonderfully uplifting tale.

A warm-hearted, crime caper, The Duke will make you fall in love with the zany Kempton Bunton and his exasperated (but loving) wife Dorothy, played by the formidable Helen Mirren. In true British fashion, join us for a cuppa and biccies ahead of this exquisite feature, a charming tale of one ordinary man’s extraordinary achievement.

“What a lovely, rousing, finally moving film this is. The Duke is unashamedly sentimental and resolutely old-fashioned in the best sense of the term.”

– The Guardian

★★★★★

“Helen Mirren, Jim Broadbent and an art heist yarn that will steal your heart…”
