Relish in the delicious Cannes Film Festival Award-winner, The Taste of Things at a Fine Wine Preview!

This preview includes a complimentary glass of wine on arrival!

Since premiering at the 2023 Cannes Film Festival The Taste of Things has whetted appetites and tugged at heartstrings all over the world and quickly became a crowd-favourite at this year’s Alliance Française French Film Festival. This deliciously sensual adaptation of Marcel Rouff’s classic 1924 novel The Life and Passion of Dodin-Bouffant, Gourmet, blends cooking with romantic love, and won director Trần Anh Hùng (The Scent of Green Papaya) the Best Director prize at Cannes 2023.

The year is 1885 and Academy Award winner Juliette Binoche plays Eugénie, a renowned cook with no equal. Previous Cannes Film Festival Best Actor winner Benoît Magimel is Dodin, a brilliant epicure whose ideas for recipes, when combined with Eugénie’s talents, create culinary magic. The talented duo form a partnership that extends beyond the kitchen, establishing a friendship that occasionally evolves into something more.

Both instructive and lovingly-captured throughout, this film reminds us that traditional French cuisine has earned its prestigious place on the world stage, thanks to the dedication, care, time and love it demands.

Bon Appétit!

Reviews:

★★★★

“The Taste of Things feels like a return to the very best kind of comfort viewing, a work that nourishes the soul and whets the appetite but without the sprinkling of irony.”

– Financial Times

★★★★★

One of 2023′s best films, “The Taste of Things” is achingly romantic and devastatingly sad. You’ll spend the first two-thirds of this movie salivating, and the last third of it sobbing.”

– Boston Globe

★★★★

Dramatically, this may seem slight. But bounteous pleasures lie in the intimacy of the acting and in the exquisite cinematic and culinary craftmanship on display.”

– Empire Magazine

“A feast for the senses, this French romance is a three Michelin-starred love story…”

– Marie Claire
