A firm favourite of opera lovers around the world, Poulenc’s masterful opera of courage, cruelty and redemption returns to Opera di Roma with a new production by award-winning film and stage director Emma Dante. Inspired by real events, the story centres around Blanche de la Force (star American soprano Corinne Winters), a timid young noblewoman who joins a convent of Carmélite martyred in Paris during the French Revolution’s Reign of Terror. On the podium, Music Director Michele Mariotti brings out the tonal nuances and power of an exhilarating score that culminates in one of the most impactful final scenes in the repertoire.
