FILM NEWS
Anya Taylor-Joy, Chris Hemsworth and Yahya Abdul-Mateen II Join George Miller’s Furiosa Prequel Cast

14 October

Earlier in March this year we reported on George Miller hitting early pre-production for a possible Furiosa prequel after his hit 2015 film Mad Max: Fury Road and was seriously considering Anya Taylor-Joy as the potential lead. After a few months, there is more exciting news, as the addition of two large names to the cast has us unable to control our excitement, Yahya Abdul-Mateen II (Aquaman, The Trial of The Chicago 7) and Australia’s own Chris Hemsworth!

Taylor-Joy will be filling the titular role, which is a younger incarnation of Furiosa – played impeccably by Charlize Theron. Miller stated in an interview in May that he’d been searching for an actress in her 20s to take over the role, after considering using de-aging technology in order or Theron to reprise the role – but decided against doing so and has landed on Taylor-Joy who is 24.

Miller will return to direct, co-write and produce Furiosa, along with his longtime producing partner Doug Mitchell. The film will be produced by Miller’s Australian-based Kennedy Miller Mitchell banner and in partnership with Warner Bros. Pictures.

In prepping the Fury Road script, Miller and co-writer Nick Lathouris developed origin stories for every character, but not much was revealed about Furiosa’s past. In the film, we learn that she is a war captain under Immortan Joe, but double-crosses him in order to free Joe’s concubines. She then forms an alliance with Max Rockatansky, played by Tom Hardy. Miller has directed all four Mad Max’ movies and was nominated for best picture and best director for his 2015 edition.

This new cast looks incredible and we are simply on the edge of our seat waiting for Miller to deliver his latest chapter in the Mad Max universe
