Set during WWII starring Colin Firth (Supernova, The King’s Speech) and Matthew Macfadyen (Pride & Prejudice, Succession), Operation Mincemeat depicts the epic war-time story of deception involving a repurposed corpse.
In 1943, as the Allies are determined to launch an all-out assault on Fortress Europe but face a seemingly impossible challenge, two brilliant intelligence officers, Ewen Montagu and Charles Cholmondeley conceive an inspired although improbable disinformation plan that was dubbed Operation Mincemeat.
They would trick the Nazis into thinking that Allied forces were planning to attack southern Europe by way of Greece rather than Sicily. Their plan was to disguise the body of a recently-deceased man, equipping it with misleading papers, then drop it off the coast of Spain where Nazi spies would take the bait.
Featuring an ensemble cast that includes Penelope Wilton and Johnny Flynn, and adapted from Ben Macintyre’s book of the same name, director John Madden (Shakespeare in Love, The Best Exotic Marigold Hotel) delivers an incredible true story of WWII espionage.
