Todd Field’s highly anticipated third feature film TÁR hits all the right beats

A spectacular symphony is coming…  Todd Field’s highly anticipated third feature film TÁR, sings a magnificent return from the director 16 years on from his Academy Award-nominated film, Little Children (2006), and having also received Academy Award nominations for his debut feature, In the Bedroom (2001). The film stars the two-time Academy Award winner, Cate Blanchett in the titular role of composer Lydia Tár.

After drawing Oscar nods for his first two films, Field was heralded by film critics as ‘one of the best new American directors’. However, launching a third feature proved to be more difficult despite his mounting success and praise from critics. After 16 years of fruitless attempts to get a third feature into production, audiences can finally take in Field’s genius once more with TÁR.

The film, set in the international world of classical music, centers on Lydia Tár, widely considered one of the greatest living composer/conductors and first-ever female chief conductor of a major German orchestra. The film follows Tár navigating her daily life and focused on perfecting her latest symphony.

With a jaw-dropping performance from Blanchett, exceptional directorial skills from Field and music by Oscar-winning composer, Hildur Guðnadóttir, TÁR hits all the right beats. See it in cinemas on January 26, 2023.
